1. The foundations of spatial interaction design:

In this talk Sjors will explore the carpenter’s workshop as a model for digital interaction. First, he will use insights from academic research in augmented reality and tangible computing to formulate some basic principles for spatial interfaces. Second he'll sketch the outlines of a room for understanding: a space where you are free to walk, build, model, compare and interact with information.

Sjors Timmer

Sjors Timmer recently came to Berlin from London where he worked as a freelance senior UX designer. He has designed mobile experiences for companies and organisations such as Specsavers, Zopa, Farfetch, London School of Economics and the UK Ministry of Justice.

You can find him on LinkedIn and on Twitter

2. How animation influences us and how it can be used to create better user interfaces
Animation is an important part of user-interfaces because, if used correctly, it enhances functionality and makes apps more intuitive and pleasant to use. However, as animation has become more and more easy to prototype and implement, I often seen it misused, causing more harm than good.
In this talk Tukka will explain how animation influences us on cognitive and affective level based on the finding from animation research. He'll show you concrete examples of how apply these learnings for mobile applications in order to design more meaningful, semantic animations.

Tuukka Kantola
Tuukka Kantola is a digital design generalist from Finland, currently working at Futurice in Berlin. He is passionate about craftsmanship, emerging technologies and animation. He has created many successful digital services together with start-ups and large corporate businesses. Recently, as part of his Master's thesis, he studied animation in mobile context and investigated how it influences people on cognitive and affective level.
