Beer & Tech - London
We are happy to host our 4th Beer & Tech meetup at Futurice London!
This time we will have talks about Unicode Data Structures and Machine Learning. We will also provide some beverages and food. More info on the topics below:
_1_ Strings are hard, let’s go shopping! by Ali Rantakari
The basic idea of a string data structure feels trivial, but the actual implementation details can be fairly complex, which leads to a lot of developers glossing over fundamental issues when handling them. In this talk, I will try to give you a useful frame of reference that can help you “know what you don’t know” when the time comes to validate some string manipulation code you might write in the future.
Ali is a Senior Consultant and iOS developer at Futurice. He is also the author of fauxpasapp.com
_2_ Fantastic Problems and Where To Find Them by Daryl Weir (@darylweir)
Machine learning and big data have been buzz words for years now, but how do you know you have a machine learning problem on your hands? This talk will describe the types of problems ML methods are well suited to solve, with examples from a wide variety of industries. It will also tell you where to get started if you want to try solving one of these problems yourself.
Daryl joined Futurice as a senior data scientist after bailing out of a career in machine learning research. He grew up in Scotland and then moved to Finland because he just loves rain that much. He enjoys board games, climbing tall things, and Bayesian inference.
